  1. Artist or Not?

I was born an artist but have made more cha-ching from signs than I would if I had to wait till I died to become famous. :) I am particularly good at sketching people, or was, 30 years ago. I don't have to look at something to draw it or copy something, it's just there. I am also good with...
  2. id help

    Scriptina, I think. Love....Jill
  3. Will cut vinyl work?

Can you contact your vinyl manufacturer and ask them? Sounds kind of tricky to me, like the jobs I get! :) Love....Jill
  4. Neat Link

http://www.plan59.com/galleries/scarykids/scarykids.htm I have to paint a mini fridge this week and I was looking for some sort of 1950s looking pictorial of a kid's face. Just something goofy to check out. Love....Jill
  5. Help reinstalling 4E. Fred? Tony?

THAT WAS IT!!!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you. Big hugs. I knew it was some basic thing that I was too stupid to remember. Ahhhh (sigh of relief)
  6. Help reinstalling 4E. Fred? Tony?

I shut down my 4E last November. It was getting too choppy for cut vinyl but still worked great for pounce patterns. Yesterday I took everything up to my garage. It's not even a whole year later and I am clueless as to how to set this up now. I plugged the 4E into my ancient Win98SE, which...
  7. Font suggestions

Arthur Vanson's Flash Script or Red Sable Script are both based in the 1930s-40s off the lettering of Cecil Wade. Both are nice. There are also some of Alf Becker's scripts available thru The Fontry He was a great lettering artist of the day whose alphabets were featured monthly in Signs of...

  10. Cool video

Yup I have seen this. Makes me think of my dear friend Bill Berberich. He's getting "up there" in age but he still gets way up there to paint. This week I am helping him with a pattern for a 20 foot tall can of Miller Lite. :) Nobody but nobody can do a wet blend like Bill. Love....Jill
  11. Do you consider your local competion friend or foe?

In a 10 mile radius I have: Sandblasted shop-friendly and we've sent jobs to each other. Monument sign shop-used to be a regular sign shop in my home town, applied there at 17 and he told me I'd never be a signpainter, I guess I should thank him but he's a douche. I don't like to be told...
  12. I'm just about at ground zero, Need help with getting things rolling

When someone bugs me on the phone I flat out will not buy from them. Maybe that's just me. I can see the sense in physically going to meet a person but not phone solicitation. I only cold-call (in person) when there is only one moldy pork chop in the fridge and a dried up block of cheese.
  13. I'm just about at ground zero, Need help with getting things rolling

If someone calls me trying to sell me something I never buy it, I think that's a nuisance. I would not cold "call" people on the phone.
  14. Flashing Arrow Portable Signs

Sam's Club sells 'em cheap. Welcome from PA! Love....Jill
  15. What should I be making? Graphics Dept Head

For comparison purposes, my dear friend works for a union sign shop. He gets $16/hour + bennies etc. last time we talked about $$ (which is something I usually never talk about with friends) He always wants to get me in there (I'd love it) but I have to start out as a journeyman wall...
  16. I'm just about at ground zero, Need help with getting things rolling

I have been there. It's absolutely terrifying. When it was happening to me a lot of sign forum folks said it was my attitude, but it was hard to be positive when I was so broke I was forced to charge my groceries on a credit card. You know what actually worked? I got a "real" job! It forced...
  17. Quick, simple, effective marketing ideas?

I like Blaney's idea. But if I did that here more than likely they would just take my donuts and be insulted that I tried to improve their nephew art, then let the nephew play with the little van. :)
  18. Guys...Please help when you have time.

I think you need to consult your 10 year old kid. :) Love....Jill PS In all seriousness. It is very weak. And the name implies cheap. I would start in black and white, lose the gradients, and try a bolder font.
  19. Temporary paint for glass

Or that white nurse kind of shoe polish. :) Love...Jill
  20. Ronan Aquacote

Yes no primer, I was really facing a tight deadline that day. I had given my only can of white lettering enamel to a sign pal and I didn't realize it was my last can. I was about a week out of a meet hosting 250 people and a year of planning on very little sleep and was about 75% dead. So I...
