  1. Done with grimco

Birmingham, AL. branch is great. I don't deal with anyone but them. If i get rolled over, I will ask for someone at my branch or call back. Period.
  2. Concrete graphics.

was about $2200 for two rolls of mactac streetrap and the non-skid laminate. Worked beautifully.
  3. took the plunge and upgraded to cs6.

I considered buying the cloud version, but really liked the idea of actually owning the software. What happens when your internet goes down? (it happens sometimes) Now I am having a problem where if I double click a pdf or ai or eps file in windows explorer, illustrator comes to the...
  4. need to rant..

Designer / prepress rant... 1. IT'S CALLED A CLIPPING MASK.... covering things you dont like to be in in your artwork with a white box isn't the answer... especially if it extends past the artboard. 2. CONVERT TEXT TO OUTLINES.... There 50 bajillion fonts out there. I don't have the time or...
  5. vectorizing software

Use it too, sometimes its great, others not so great. It does save a lot of time and for something quick like a coroplast sign it fits the bill.
  6. took the plunge and upgraded to cs6.

Started getting files I couldn't open more and more often (bastards) -- so i decided it was time to upgrade. Not liking the new colors, maybe ill get used to it. Anyone have some tips on what's new/different that I am going to run in to? I previously had cs5. It looks like photoshop has a...
  7. Not liking the new site design.

So far, only gripe is the list of pages being at the top. If you scroll down to see a thread and need to go to another page, you have to scroll back up again to go to the next page. Not that it takes a bunch of effort or anything, it just made more sense for the page list to be at the bottom.
  8. Braille labels?

Ok, could you make a clear acrylic face with braille at the bottom, that I can put my reverse print on the back?
  9. Braille labels?

So, one of my clients had me make some acrylic signs for the back doors on their property. They liked them so much that they want to replace the rest of the signage on their property, but some are ADA. If I send those out to be made elsewhere they wont match. So I am wondering... Is it...
  10. What's your biggest signmaking mistake

Back where I used to work, we would outsource a lot of big banners for the featherlite nascar series. I designed a victory lane banner at 1" = 1' and sent it off. A month later we get a call asking what the deal was with their banner, and get a photo of the race winner holding up his victory...
  11. Brick Wall Mural

I second the 3M 480cv3 for textured wall applications. We just did a 90'x13' concrete wall with it, printing with solvent, and it worked great! Here's part of it as it went up.
  12. Inbetween a rock and a hard place

I hope to get 10 years out of my Mimaki... and by that time have it printing something other than vinyl because I have some new dandy latex or whatever is great and wonderful by then... I agree with anotherdog.... cheaper to maintain something than replace it... the company I used to work for...
  13. Inbetween a rock and a hard place

look at it this way, a new print head and dampers and you go another 6 years. If you dont have a problem with the print quality or speed, already know how to use and maintain this printer, why bother with spending 3-4 times the cost of a replacement head to just keep going?
  14. Vinyl cutter plots wavy lines

are your squares square? maybe try a big equilateral triangle and see if its as tall as it is wide. Would tell you if it's slipping.
  15. WHY WHY WHY Royal Soverign

loosen the feed roller on the front. We keep the material SLACK as it goes through and it eliminates the tunneling.
  16. rainbow banding jv33

Do a test print and post the pics please. Lets make sure all your nozzles are firing. What rip are you using, what pass and resolution are those prints? What material are you printing on, and what's your heat set at?
  17. Yellow Ink

Not as familiar with the jv3 as the jv33, but is ink making it to the damper?
  18. Bioshock Infinite - Eye candy for sign makers.

I got Skyrim a few months ago, and was playing a good bit until we got so busy that I haven't had time to play. Its too immersive, and hard to play in small chunks... so at lunch, I will bust out some minecraft and do a little digging. The skyrim engine is based on the Fallout 3 engine, imho...
  19. ink / damper problem

I've had to pull with a syringe, but if it's not gravity feeding well to fill your dampers in just a few minutes you might have some problems at the valve. The dampers at the head are far enough below the cartridge and vale, that you can turn them upside down and depress the plunger with your...
  20. A mix / mash of ideas.

I think this sums it up. :clapping:
