Put your website address on it, not your email address. If you don't have a website, get one ASAP. Lose the serif and add a little more negative space on the left/right margins, "Sign Rite" looks cramped because the S and e forms hit the edge of the plane.
 Communist Russia? What on earth are you talking about. Market conditions set pricing. If you can't bring home what you need to bring home because your profit isn't high enough, you need to sell more or change market conditions (increase demand via marketing, etc.)--you can't simply charge...
If you have weekends you have time to start another business ;).
I can't imagine doing this with 200 ft. sq. -- do you even have space for one 8' work table?
Have you played 20 questions with the client? Have you researched their competition? Have you done 20-100 sketches of potentials in order to find 10 or so to develop further?
You can't just make up something and throw it at the client and expect good results. Graphic Design, as Rick pointed...
Flickr is also a great inspiration source, an easy visual way to search it is compfight.com
Additionally create a saved search on Twitter for Wayfinding and a lot of interesting things will come across that stream. A Google Alert isn't a bad idea either.

Enroll in a 2-year design program at a local university, 4-year even better. Technical skills can be self-taught; process, philosophy, training your eye, etc. is significantly harder to do on your own. There's also a saying: design is only design when it's collaborative. Being a solo designer...
The email marketing software I recommend is http://mailchimp.com
As part of my freelance side business I design and run email marketing campaigns for small business/non-profits, MailChimp is the way to go. Used Constant Contact when I was in the marketing department of a museum and it doesn't...
I'd recommend against this approach--great if it's working for you but your "needs" as a person shouldn't have anything to do with your pricing structure. Pricing should be based on market conditions, costs, etc. not your "needs". If someone gave me that speech about kids to feed I'd walk away...
As a customer, any business that doesn't take CC's loses my sale and all credibility. I don't care what the fees are, figure it out in your overhead cost and charge accordingly or die with the rest of the dinosaurs. I can't believe we're still having this conversation in 2010.
Make sure to check the licensing on each set, a lot of resource roundups on sites like speckyboy are for resources that don't allow for commercial usage, only personal. Be diligent.
