  1. Pondering the old sign “painter” days…

Lettering was but just one facet of the sign business, and for me it was branching out into other parts like painting pictorials and then airbrushing, gold leaf, pin striping and anything else I could learn to keep me from getting burned out. As a whole, it remained fun, but only lettering would...
  2. Passed this Jewel on the way down-town.

    That's some fine talent there:thumb:
  3. Pondering the old sign “painter” days…

Most people dream of putting in twenty years and retiring. I've been lucky to get paid forty years to have fun every day. My life has been a success even if I didn't get rich monetarily. Find your passion in life, consider yourself a very lucky man!
  4. Pondering the old sign “painter” days…

It was I read it around 1974 and most of the info on materials was antequated. But the lettering strokes and fonts, along with some basic layouts, gave me enough to go by. I am so happy I learned old school first. It really laid the groundwork for what I do today. I feel privedged to have...
  5. Pondering the old sign “painter” days…

I read a book by E. C. Matthews, and became an accidental sign painter. It was like smokin crack. Never had the luxury of working in a shop and learning from a master. Ended up being self taught. Expensive way to learn but I managed to get the hang of it.
  6. Logo Design and Providing Multiple Options

I'd also make mention of the fact that the more options they have, the harder the decision. If you do your homework well, you should get pretty close to the mark within the first few revisions. I'm currently working on a design for a RV park that has an existing field stone structure and worked...
  7. How much for that stop sign?

Yep that was one of my better jobs I bid and got. Went to Vegas as soon as the check cleared.

  9. Had a visitor at the house yesterday...

When you make him a bed, be sure and make a custom carved head board!
  10. John Don't Go!

I post my stuff in order to inspire others to strive to better themselves. I have a screen name because I really am maniacal about signs. I don't hide who I am, I'm easy to find and I have never been stalked or harassed by any members of this forum. I avoid the drama, try to help those I can. I...

  13. Pizza shop makeover

Night and day difference with some dimension and color change. And nice nesting on the material. I do most of mine manually which results in tighter spacing and less waste.
  14. Art Competition Piece

Very nice and interesting all in one. At one time in my life I did a series along the same similar vein. :rock-n-roll:
  15. Where else do you go?

Grocery store. Just look at the million dollar package design and you will see all sorts of color combinations, shapes, panels, fonts. They are designed to grab the viewers eye immediately. Magazines can be a good source too. And just look at the local signs in your town and take notice of the...
  16. Hello...I am not a graphic artist

Frustrating yes. Only going to get worse I'm afraid. A tool, computer, or printer does not make a person an artist. Creativity and visual perception can't be bought over the counter or online.
  17. Hand Painted to Vinyl Cut

A shame he isn't willing to update that ugly logo. At least on his website looks a little more contemporary. But I still hate his choice of font for Ideal. You should take this opportunity to up sell him and convince him that he needs a better looking vehicle.
  18. New here

Welcome. A lot of Aussies on this forum, but due to the time difference, their post never arrive in time to be read by the yanks.
