  1. Exacto Blades Not Sharp Anymore

Olfa precision blade for their art knife is good. Xacto blades are garbage. We had some laying around the shop and the tips usually bend within an hour.
  2. Truck door layout

    Best design so far, IMHO.
  3. Equipment Advice Needed

Check out ScreenPrinting.com to get an idea of what you're going to need to spend. $1,000 isn't a lot and you're not going to be able to get an automated machine. Keep your eyes peeled for used machines if you want to try to save a little money. For $1,000 you can get a pretty nice hobbyist...
  4. How can I stop banners from frailing along the edges?

I saw it demoed, but haven't used it. If you're just hemming edges or putting 3" or less pole pockets, it's pretty nice. Not expensive, easy to use, doesn't take a bunch of space. We didn't buy one because we had just purchased a WeldMaster.
  5. How can I stop banners from frailing along the edges?

    Check out the Leister HEMTEK.
  6. How can I stop banners from frailing along the edges?

Not only is it all Chinese, even if you order the same "brand" you're not likely to get the same thing twice.
  7. Building wraps with mesh banner

It does look great! To be honest, I didn't have a whole to do with this particular project. I was pretty skeptical about how it was going to turn out, but they did an awesome job. I think part of the original plan was for the mouth to open and close via an actuator, but not sure if that made...
  8. Building wraps with mesh banner

I worked for a company that wrapped a bell tower in mesh banner to look like a nutcracker. If I recall correctly, it was done with a series of strategically placed come-alongs and tapcons. I believe a rigging company was hired to actually put it up.
  9. I know this is ridiculous...

Like ams said, use a specialty vinyl. RoughRap seems to work pretty well. Just print to the colors you need and call it a day. I personally don't know of a cut vinyl that would work, but now I'm curious. I found this blog post, not sure if it helps you at all, but it's an interesting read at...
  10. Need Help selling files to competitor/customer

Hit the nail on the head. Everybody here has to have heard, "this will be good exposure for you/your company" at least once, if not multiple times.
  11. Anyone get a email from fast signs?

My mother in law is staying with us until January (she's been here since October) to "help" with our newborn, so I feel his pain.
  12. Anyone get a email from fast signs?

    Oops. Tell Kevin I'm sorry.
  13. What material - interior signage?

Like letterman7 said, without context it's kind of difficult to give you and straight advice. The short answer is ACM with laminated vinyl applied to it, screwed directly to the wall. That's by far the easiest and sounds like it's something you're set up to do. Anybody who sells sign and...
  14. What material - interior signage?

Left image looks like it might be ACM and Gatorboard or Ultraboard maybe? Right image looks like ACM, PVC, and maybe acrylic? A Zund or anything similar can cut all that stuff. Just find somebody locally who can do it for you.
  15. Anyone get a email from fast signs?

Sounds bogus. If Kevin is looking for another job and didn't tell you, but listed you as a reference, Kevin might not be the brightest bulb in the pack.
  16. Suggestions How much should I pay an employee?

Not a lot of information to go off of, but if you're paying him less than $20 an hour you're going to risk losing him. He's got a valuable skill set. If you don't keep him happy, all it takes is one headhunter to poach him.
  17. Matt Lamination

There are laminators that you can put your roll of material on and walk away from, but they do require someone to occasionally check on them while they're running. I've never seen one that works perfectly all the time. Heh.
  18. Window Perf on Acrylic Panels

Alcohol is a bad idea on acrylic due to crazing. Even if you're careful, it's not a risk I'd be willing to take on customer supplied material.
  19. Window Perf on Acrylic Panels

Are they interior or exterior? If there's any UV exposure, you might end up with some yellowing where there was no perf. I've had good luck Novus line of plastic polishes cleaning it up, but you MIGHT not be able to get it back to mint.
  20. Matt Lamination

Unless you're doing LOTS of liquid lamination, I wouldn't purchase a liquid laminator. Unless you've got the money and don't mind a slow ROI. They're great if you're laminating entire rolls of material on a regular basis, but not really worth the time, money, and effort for one offs.
