Hmmm..... I dont think it is a printer issue, unless you have noticed your alignment or nozzle tests printing mirrored.
Have you spoken with Onyx directly about this?
If the carriage moves smoothly and the paper feeds and pulls normally it could be a bad motor throwing an overcurrent error. I would have to take a look at the service error log to determine what the problem is. Time for a service call, unless you feel up to cracking open the machine.
Maybe a version of what this company offers is the answer. BTW I dont know these folks, just an example:

Do you have a service manual for your machine? The only other thing would be to take the platen and heater covers off, then trace the wiring to find the fuse (may be right under the cover).
The only time I have had image reversal issues is when I built a profile and the lookup table (final set of swatches) was corrupted. This caused a major reversal and looks like a weird negative image in some places.
Has anyone has been fooling around with your profiles?

I have had tape come off inside the machine with no problems, but if it gets lodged in the roller slot it can be a pain to dig out. Best to eye those rolls when they are down to the last few feet and unwind the last manually to check for tape.
