  1. VJ1204 - Can't Open Port = No Printing

Maybe you are unlucky and the communication port has died. It is still in warranty so give the supplier a call. SC
  2. CMYK not original...vj1204

How is it fixed for good?
  3. you know this is the truth

It's more like what they would like and what they can afford! Wasters with empty pockets. SC
  4. 1204 - Lost half of the black nozzles during a print job

How old is the print head? Maybe a head cable issue. I thought ink starvation but if damper is full their should be no issue. SC
  5. Mutoh 1604 missing 1st black block, damper full, new printhead/dampers/cables. Ideas?

No the technician reckoned he had issues with non oem cables. SC
  6. Mutoh Rockhopper I for Motocross, MX Graphics

Rockhopper is a slow old printer. Also you wlll need a decent plotter to cut the graphics as the material is very thick. The price for MX materials is prohibitive high and makes making a profit very difficult. Only use Convex or Substance materials as nothing else works as well. We shut down...
  7. What is causing this on my prints?

Have you cleaned round the head and capping station as excessive build up of ink can cause this. Their may even be fluff round the head causing this. What is your test print like? How is the machine wired on the network as could be a communication issue also. SC
  8. Mutoh 1604 missing 1st black block, damper full, new printhead/dampers/cables. Ideas?

When I had my head replaced on our 1604 earlier on in the year the technician insisted I supplied original mutoh head cables. He reckoned that he had had issues with non original cables. So it could still be the head cable. Ours prints like new again. SC
  9. Here are some nice fubars for your morning coffee and donuts................

That toilet seat is brilliant...I nearly fell of my chair. That would confuse a few people here. SC
  10. Looking For Suggestions For Materials for Motorcross Graphics

Substance is great but if you are concerned that it is expensive Convex is even more costly. I have used both the thinner and thicker laminates and they both work well but still are so slow to cut. A few years ago I tried another material (it was an unbranded material) which our supplier...
  11. Mutoh 1204 Error Message

I've looked through my maintenance manual and I cannot find the error code "Never mind!" SC
  12. Lifespans of Vinyl & Laminate

Brilliant reply...LOL The life span of these materials can be as much caused by the climate, how well the customer looks after it, etc.. I have had customers in my shop wanting signs and graphics to last 10 years! We had an oriental gentleman wanting a 20 year guarantee for his sign!! This...
  13. Oracal 651 or 751

I've been in this trade coming up 30 years and have used 651 for the past 7 years. I can be honest in saying it is one of the best intermediate vinyls and have used it on vehicles and signs with no problems. I live in damp and cold area so this probably helps. I very rarely use a cast material...
  14. Mimaki JV33-160 vs. Mutoh VJ1624

Oh dear they look almost similair in spec and quality!! I would try and screw Mutoh down on the ink. Also I would not use a bulk system till the warranty was over. Also in my experience of both inks solvent and eco solvent most if not all things printed will be overlaminated and their is very...
  15. Mimaki JV33-160 vs. Mutoh VJ1624

Their is no way you can estimate what the ink consumption is on either machine as prints vary so much. They will use roughly the same amount as each other as you have to use the same amount of ink on either machine to make a colour. It is all based on ink costs. If you are using fully solvent...
  16. Mimaki JV33-160 vs. Mutoh VJ1624

We have had our VJ 1604 for coming on 6 years. For the first 2/3 years it was only lightly used (mainly because of costs of OEM inks). Over the last 3 years it has been very heavily used and had been converted to run bulk inks. With running bulk inks the average consumption has been reduced by...
  17. Need to replace Fuses

Please before you start the fuse repair understand that the fuse is a safety part of the circuit and has blown for a reason. We also changed the head cable and the print head as they were both over five years old and either one of these items or both caused the head to blow. We had a tec in to...
  18. What files/artwork to give clients?

We have a sign on the office wall stating how much it is for artwork to be supplied and it seems to cause no problems. Also every time it is requested they have to pay again. It states that the artwork is ours until paid for. Pointless trying to blackmail customers to stay. Where we are...
  19. Fur and velvet wraps?

Yes but the Dog Van was way cooler. SC
  20. Fluroescent Chrome Vinyl

Fluorescent and Chrome are the worst to be used outside but both together is a sure recipe for disaster. As for fitting onto a windscreen I wouldn't guarantee any further than a day even less if it rains. I have had both Fluorescent and Chrome fail within 6 months. The Colour is just printed...
