If you want to make signs for yourself, thats terrific, but you are asking people, who make their livings from signmaking, how to do it so you don't have to pay them. Have I got that right?
I have a Daige that had that problem. Turned out to be a broken cotter pin on the drive gear. It had sheared so it was able to slip on the axle. Once we got the sides off it was an easy fix.
Overnight should be good, The solvents in Krylon are pretty "hot" so they evaporate pretty quick. I don't use a primer. A test piece is always the safest way to proceed.
Krylon Fusion works well for this. We've done it many times. If you are spraying an inch or two onto the face it needs a light scuff with a scotchbrite pad.
Thanks, Gino. I did think about using a polishing compound or a clay bar, but I'm not sure if the ghosting is a residue left behind from the old lettering or if it's actually removing a protective layer from on the glass. If that's the case I don't want to make it worse. These are all dark...

I am a small in home custom sign shop owner. I have minimal equipment, a plotter, a 30" roland printer and a cheap Daige laminator. I started as a sign painter in the mid 70's. I have pretty good design skills. Decals of any quality that are aimed at the custom motorcycle or the hot-rod crowd...
Is there no way to fit a pen to your plotter? Our plotter wasn't designed for pens but we regularly fit a ballpoint or a sharpie on the carriage for exactly this purpose.
Thank-you both for taking the time to reply. I will order the fonts today. I would have just traced the name if it was all they wanted, but they need a pile of other stuff using the same style.
I'd mask 'em with transfer tape and degrease then spray them with Krylon fusion. It's formulated to adhere to vinyl and it will make touching up down the road easy. At night I can see Nanaimo from here.
Yep! that's the stuff. What in the heck do they put in there that causes it to smell like that. I sure would not want to work in the factory that makes that tape and I've worked in tannerys and pulp mills..
