  1. Multicam Technician For Installation

My first choice would be MCP Services, Inc. out of Tampa. The owner was a long-time MultiCam tech and knows his stuff. He's helped me out many times over the years. Multicam Southeast would be the next best bet. They're out of Suwanee, GA.
  2. Squeegee Streaks on Overlam printed Vinyl

This will (normally) go away after a few days- especially when the items are exterior.
  3. Need Help calculating area of shape in corel draw?

As Uncle and Ronny mentioned, Corel doesn't do that unless you an appropriate macro. For permitting- unless it's a shape where you actually can get the area via a geometric equation (a circle, rectangle, or triangle, for instance)- we do the "draw a rectangle around it" (or, for particularly...
  4. Circles on a CNC Whats the accepted tolerance ? Are my circles good enough?

If you're okay with it, and the customer's okay with it, then they're okay. For signs, they're probably okay. For precision parts, that would be out of tolerance for most applications. It all depends on the end use.
  5. Question clear coroplast?

    I don't know if there's a clear coroplast, but there's a clear, fluted polycarbonate (Polygal, I think).
  6. Glass permanently etched by decals?

Even if there's no direct sun hitting it, over time, it'll still ghost. Plus- vinyl shrinkage lets dirt get embedded in the adhesive residue left behind (as someone else mentioned, I believe). This is especially true if the people who did the vinyl used anything less than hi performance, cast vinyl.
  7. COMPUTER CUT CHROME

I actually wasn't aware anyone made a chrome with more than a 1 or 2 year lifespan. The Real Gold stuff makes sense, though- I recall that being quality stuff.
  8. Possible bad batch of 3M 180CV3

I think it must be cyclic. About four or five years ago, we got in 10 or 15 pallets of the stuff- from the factory, as the company was a 3m subcontractor- and just kept having issues. And we were printing on 5 printers at a time. When we noticed the first issue (a dark print that just looked...
  9. Favorite "professional" graphic design idiot stories?

    Wow. That's just... wow.
  10. Newbie Designer Here

Oh yeah- absolutely keep a file/folder/whatever of common sizes and such as ProSignTN said. I keep digital versions of that (and some in hard copy, too) on my PC @ work, my laptop @ home, my desktop PC @ home, on a flash drive, and backed up via Carbonite. Any time I run across something new I...
  11. Newbie Designer Here

Ask questions. Then, ask more. - Once you've got a design done- ask your shop's lead fabricator how (or if) the design can be built. The easier it is to build, the quicker it's out the door. - If the fabricator tells you something can't be built the way you've designed it, ask what changes need...
  12. Hiring Designers for my Sign Company

Prior to returning to the sign business in the 90s, I worked for an industrial supply company that made, among other things, gaskets and hydraulic hoses. The owner of the company wouldn't allow anyone to work in sales unless they'd spent six months in the gasket shop and six months in the hose...
  13. Surfacing MDF Spoil board issue

I would definitely start with a 3/4" thick spoil board. Once ours gets to 1/2", it's time to order a new one (in Georgia, where heat and humidity wreak havoc on them). When it's new, we remove about .005" from the first side (with the old board still on the table), then remove the old board...
  14. Question about "Brand Guidelines"

If it's a customer representing the the brand (say, an insurance agent), you suggest they follow them (7 times out of 10 they won't), and do the best you can. If it's the actual company, you follow the guidelines- or make d****d sure their marketing department signs off on any changes (speaking...
  15. How long have you been on here?

Since 2005. In "the biz" full time since the 90s (part time back in the 80s).
  16. Dust collector hose bracket

We just use chains, mounted to J hooks on the ceiling rafters. Move your spindle to the farthest point away from the vacuum and suspend the hose accordingly (so it doesn't sag down in the way when the spindle moves elsewhere).
  17. Should I buy this saw?

Congrats. A panel saw is worth any clean-up (though our vacuum sucks up almost all of the chips/debris).
  18. Looking for Software Alternatives

As mentioned, I'd suspect hardware. If that's not the case, you're on a subscription plan- pester the ever-loving #$*% out of them until it's fixed.
  19. OH Freestanding Lighted Channel Letters

Worldwide Signs comes immediately to mind. Pretty sure they have locations all over. Same for ESCO. Sign Source USA is in Lima, so in-state for ya.
  20. With a heavy heart!!

Thank you for letting us know. His wisdom and kindness will be missed.
