  1. One-step away from buying a channel letter bending machine.

Our shop uses a CLN notcher and CLN bender. Does what they're supposed to do and, if you do have issues, you usually get a tech call from the owner of the company (or I did the two times I called, anyway).
  2. REWORKING LEXAN

Usually, not once the protective coating is removed. But, it's probably the side with the graphics already on it (if it's decorated) or- hopefully- the side facing out (if it's blank).
  3. 3D Cube structure need produced

If it was me, 1/2" or 3/4" tubing for the core with .10" or .125" aluminum faces, cut to shape, with welded returns. Or, find a source with a 3D printer that can do it.
  4. Flexi view command shows something I never noticed before in a file

"...why the designer would have a different colour after the cut line..." Because most designers don't know how to create production files. Alternately, they could have intended it as a bleed, but didn't select the correct color.
  5. REWORKING LEXAN

You absolutely need to remove it. It will show through on whatever you install on top as "texture". Optionally, you can use the back side- but keep in mind some polycarbonate has a "face" side and the reverse will age (yellowing, usually) faster.
  6. Can any pigment based ink printer print on Vinyl?

Don't forget that "7-9 years" is just for the unprinted vinyl/media. Once it's printed, that number drops drastically. Last time I checked, the warranty on most printed media from manufacturers was only 3-5 years (and 5 was an outlier, if I recall), and that warranty is only valid if you use the...
  7. (PLEASE ADD YOUR INPUT) Printing a wrap based on customer info

Would never produce anything beyond approval layouts before taking my measurements personally. If possible, the measurements were done before the layout was started. If not, they were done once drawings were approved, but before any printing took place. Under no circumstances would we accept the...
  8. "You'll have to eat your chili with a fork": Managerial Failure 101

Except that the spoons that come from Wal-Mart (or Target or wherever) wouldn't be individually wrapped- and someone would complain they weren't sanitary (and, honestly, they probably wouldn't be). There are, though, plenty of restaurant supply places in most cities where they could have gone to...
  9. Need HELP with moving Flexi 8.6 to a new Windows 11 PC.

If you don't have the install CD/DVD or didn't save the install files on a backup drive somewhere, you're probably going to be S.O.L. There's no way (at least no way I could imagine) that SAi will send you copies of them, because of the age and because they want you to buy the new version. As...
  10. Need HELP with moving Flexi 8.6 to a new Windows 11 PC.

No clue if it would work (don't have Windows 11 yet) but along the lines of what ProSignTN said... (I'm going from memory, so I may miss a step, but it's something like) install the program as normal. After the install, but BEFORE attempting to run the program, right click on the program file in...
  11. Real Estate Signs... Aluminum or ACM?

We normally got them from Grimco, Reece, or N. Glantz, so I'd try sign suppliers. Some of the aluminum suppliers here in Georgia carry them, too.
  12. Real Estate Signs... Aluminum or ACM?

Since you can order pre-punched blanks, I'd personally stick with the aluminum. If you switch to ACM, is the price comparable, considering you'll need to cut them yourself?
  13. Laser Engraving question

I'm not 100% certain, but I seem to recall we just used a latex house paint. "Dabbed" it on and ran a damp rag over it to wipe away the excess.
  14. SAI Enroute and Windows 11?

Is your version of EnRoute the "latest"? If I recall, the literature I saw at the ISA show in Atlanta last year said that 2022's was the first version of EnRoute that was "certified" to work with Windows 11.
  15. Who is responsible for pulling a sign permit

Offer it as a service. Charge accordingly. Not just the cost of the permit and filing fee, but for your time prepping, printing however many copies are required, mailing (emailing, whatever), making changes (if needed), the time/cost of getting stamped engineered drawings where required, and...
  16. Is mobile sign service a good investment?

Just because the allow the trailers in a residential area doesn't (necessarily) mean they'll allow a wrapped one- which often makes it fall into a commercial vehicle or advertising category that many don't allow. Best to check your local ordinances. Many others have made the important points...
  17. Backlit Vinyl Bubbling After 3 Years

We used to get at least one brand of poly that marked as "either side out". Their "60 inch" sheets were, in actuality, only 58", "their protective film only 52-54" inches, the edges were always scratched, and in inevitably came rolled up, and the meatheads in the shop would unroll it on the...
  18. PERFORATED VINYL can anyone explain the numbers?

Almost always, because there's always the customer who complains when the print fades after 6 months (even though most window perf is only "good" for a year [by "good", I mean the warranty]). Yes, I realize there are plenty of cases where it lasts longer, and that's awesome.
  19. PERFORATED VINYL can anyone explain the numbers?

It's the ratio of holes to solid, with the first number (usually) being the amount of solid. A 70/30 would have holes making up 30% of the material (i.e., what you can see through). 70/30 or 80/20 is generally used for buildings, 50/50 for vehicles (to allow for max visibility. GFC is a good...
  20. Cutting weird

You don't mention what kind of plotter you're using, but most of them have multiple settings to accommodate different types of blades with different force, speed, offset, etc. Looks to me like someone might have inadvertently changed which one was being used, or changed the offset.
