Epson inks are expensive per cart, but you don't go through near as much ink as a JV3 does. But, that also depends on your profiles. I'd say at least 50% less ink used at a guess.
I'm not sure on your entire range of products, but if you're doing vehicle graphics things aren't flat and the UV doesn't stretch as well as traditional inks.
I researched a lot of printers and we ended up purchasing an Epson 60600 when we were able to pick any we wanted (64").
And in the...
I suggest looking into the Epson 60600. I've ran Mimaki and Roland also and would not go back. Do not recommend Latex either after our experiences. I do not recommend UV unless it is a flatbed either.
I bought a few boxes of cheap Harbor Freight gloves a couple weeks ago and use one every time I pump gas, I put about a half box in each car, and I think the gloves cost about $.10 each or probably less. Cheap insurance to put one on when you get out and discard it before getting back in.
Piece of phototex and a grease pencil. Stick it on the panel and trace the outline/shape. Measure a vertical distance and a horizontal distance and draw that on there also clearly. Put the phototex back on its backer and head back to the shop. Stick the phototex on a flat wall and stand back and...
If you're happy with your HP's output and just unhappy with the "plasticy" nature of it, then stick with getting a new one of those. When we had ours it was also regularly broke from the plastic parts snapping or wearing out and then they weren't warranted and it was down until parts/tech could...
Our installers ran into this also, and if the door is reinforced/armored you're in a real pickle. They haven't found a good solution yet, so we've been modifying layouts to accommodate for missing the door handle on 2020 cruisers and notifying the customers that we can't remove them like before.
Everywhere I have worked that used 3rd party inks had issues with heads going bad. Here, we only use OEM inks (now OEM/MCS inks) and have never had any head issues.
We print a LOT of vinyl, so you'd think we'd go through heads.... only ever replaced them due to employee negligence/head strikes.
Here is a template for a 2018 (and other years) Dodge Promaster (Full Size) Hood.
Customers wanted their logo to flow along the bodylines of this hood, so I had to draw it up to get the curves right.
Figure someone else might run into this same issue.
The additional white ink does not cause any more maintenance/cleaning issues than normal. Maintenance is very minimal and quick when necessary. We spend about 5 minutes a week cleaning each of ours.
I just want to recommend comparing a 60600 or even a 40600 (if you have a lighter workload) to the 80600. I do not have faith in the additional inks longevity and recommend sticking with a dual CMYK printer if it is possible. For fine art prints latex is nice as long as the heads are all in...
I think it is do-able for most medium and larger sized businesses as long as there is overlap in departments. I'm usually here at 7/7:30am until 5pm, so turning that back to 4 days would eliminate some overtime. If one employee worked Tues-Fri and the other in the same area worked Mon-Thurs...
