  1. Font ID

Looks like some iteration of Clarendon to me.
  2. Site Surveys and Estimates getting out of control

I'm fortunate enough not to have to deal with pricing, etc., anymore (I much prefer the production side of the business)- but count me as a fan of the "$xxx for a detailed estimate, which we will be happy to apply towards your purchase with us" method. As a number of others have said, it helps...
  3. Upgrading Flexi 8.6

I prefer Flexi, too, for the uses you listed. Unless you know programming, though (or know someone who does), you're S.O.L. unless you upgrade. I agree that it sucks to shell out more after spending the money already, but think of it this way: If you paid $4000 for a car in 2009 (about the time...
  4. Materials

Well, now- duh! My apologies. I either need coffee or sleep. Perhaps both.
  5. Materials

Reece, N. Glantz, Advantage, Feller's- almost any of the standard sign suppliers.
  6. Framed aluminum with a curved profile to match the building

It's rare that you ever get the info you need, but you could ask the building's owner for a copy of the blueprints- that would have the radius and width of the opening, plus the angle of the windows. Draw it out and plot it on paper, then check it against the actual building and adjust as...
  7. Aluminum "No Trespassing" Signs - Production Method Suggestions

Yep- add a +1 from me for Super Signs and Grimco.

    Gotham, in our font collection.
  10. VJ 1204 Banding problems.

Wow- the cleaning solution for the Mutoh Eco-Sol inks is only like $25 from the cowboy.
  11. Mimaki Cg-130 fx plotter

I don't think that arrow's direction makes a bit of difference. It's a swivel blade, it'll turn to cut in whichever direction it's moving. If adjusting your settings doesn't work, it may very well be that your blade or blade holder need to be replaced. Yes, the blade holders wear out.
  12. VJ 1614E strange printing problem

In my pre-sign guy life, I worked at a waterjet company that made various parts from rubbers, plastics and urethane. If your problem is that the urethane on the roller (the cover) is hardening, it's because it's old and needs to be replaced. It doesn't matter what you think the hardened roller...
  13. VJ 1614E strange printing problem

I can't track it down right now, but we had to call them to get them. They weren't listed anywhere online that I could find, either. (800) 792-4782
  14. VJ 1614E strange printing problem

You're right- I forgot that part. Another temp "work around" is to remove the offenders, or swap them out with the ones that rarely see use.
  15. VJ 1614E strange printing problem

Ours is in a closed room, too- but the rollers do wear out from use, not just from getting dirty. Definitely do not use solvent to clean them- it won't soften them, it will destroy them. The most effective method was to pop the rollers out and soak them in isopropyl alcohol overnight or over a...
  16. VJ 1614E strange printing problem

We used to get this a lot on static cling material (VJ1624, though), but not so much on other media. I found that cleaning the rollers helps briefly, but- depending on the age of the machine- you may just need to replace them. Bell & Howell is where the ones for the 1624 come from. They're...
  17. How do you tape and ship your vinyl?

Seeing as we're in Georgia, with its glorious humidity, we get this most every time we ship graphics (plotter cut, prints, print & cut, etc.). I find my best results come from rolling it tightly around a standard 3" core. It seems to help the tape stay flat. Once it gets there and is unrolled...
  18. How Would You Produce?

Yep- that's what I'd suggest for that quantity. Most of the traffic sign sellers offer that service. If it was 15 or less, sure- go ahead and do it with cut vinyl (though opaque black- not reflective- as other mentioned).
  19. How would you create this effect?

As a quickie, the "Sprayed Stroke" filter in Photoshop will give a similar look. 3rd party filters might get you even closer.
  20. Vinyl not sticking to drywall

Arlon DPF8000 print vinyl sticks quite well. If you're going for anything other than white, though- it won't work unless you print it (and you get any color you want). Print/cut/apply/done. As for cut vinyl- in my experience, problems with vinyl sticking to drywall usually boils down to the...
