Yeah, I think I aired my complaint in the wrong place :) I don't provide and end product like most here, my business is design, so I think we just look at it a bit differently.
  2. Some clients...

This "nickel and dime stuff" is a BIG portion of my income. So no. Imagine if the vector doctor just did the "nickel and dime stuff" for free?
  3. Some clients...

I actually went up to $20 this year for my retail customer for revisions. I know it's not much, but it makes it worth doing these little 5 minute revisions all day. It does add up. Believe me, it's not the $15 that concerns me about this client, it's the lack of appreciation for the value of...

I love the email tag! Can I steal that? Unfortunately, there's just no way I can get written approval for every revision I do every day. I think the only solution is to bill in advance from here on out, a paid invoice is just as good as written approval in my book.
  5. Some clients...

I should mention, this customer is STRICTLY a design customer, that's what they hire me for. I don't make signs or any other product for them. They hire me to design, period.
  6. Some clients...

Well, I guess that's the way you run your business, but I do graphic design all day every day. I don't quote everything up front, only on larger projects or with new clients. I would spend half my day and my clients know what I bill and don't expect that.
  7. Some clients...

Uh no. Sorry. This is a client I had a steady working relationship with in the past, I did work for them almost daily at one point, not so much anymore. They should know by now I don't work for free.

Client: Hey Phillip, Hope all is well!!! I have a request! I've been looking through XXX's files for our current business card MS Publisher files or image or pdf, and I am finding nothing. Did you design them? If you did, can you send me the publisher file or high quality graphic of the XXX...
  9. Fancy Sign for an Eye Doctor's Office

My first thought was exactly the same.
  10. Fancy Sign for an Eye Doctor's Office

A well designed carved sign would look fantastic in that spot as long as it doesn't need to capture viewers attention from an extremely long distance. This is a dream job, at least design-wise. I don't know about the client.
  11. How to build a $1,000,000 Sign Shop

Not everyone thinks life is about having a big business or being able to use the word "Million" in some way do describe your success. Sadly, many don't recognize what true success in life is until it's too late.
  12. Logo critique and advise please.

    I just shed a tear.
  13. Logo critique and advise please.

Well that's one way to run a business and many sign shops have this same mentality. But I don't think it has done any favors to this industry, our clients or to most urban landscapes. I understand that viewpoint, but the fact is (as cliché as it may sound) the first impression people get of a...
  14. Graphtec CE3000-60 cutting issues

Do the squares seem to be skewed at all? Maybe worn pinch rollers?
  15. Timber Frame Questions

I have to agree with ddarlak. The arch above with the rectangle sign looks a bit like someone is trying to reuse an old structure that doesn't fit the new sign. Maybe the rectangle is just a place holder for a different shape?
  16. Feedback on Layout

Holy smokes, this might take the cake for ridiculous amount of info. The tree itself is a waste of space. "slow down honey, I need to jot down this 51 character web address...http...darn!" The sign you've suggested is much more appropriate information-wise
  17. Intimidated by new competition

So, while everyone on here is pitching a fit about how horrible the sign looks and how this shop is doomed to failure, Hittin Skins is rocking a 5 Star review average and over 14,000 followers on Facebook. I think they're going to do ok.
  18. Intimidated by new competition

Agree with DerbyCitySignGuy. The youngsters are saying "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" these days. Keep up you old farts.
  19. How to to set up business cards for 3rd party print

So per your request, I won't critique this particular design, but it's a good practice in general to leave more breathing room in the whole design, especially around the borders. Not only will it make it easier for the printer, it will be easier on the eyes.
  20. Which is the best option for a backlit white acrylic sign?

Technically yes your designs are better as far as breathing room . But you've changed the font and look of the logo which probably isn't going to fly.
