Also this is from personal experience do not upgrade the firmware? The firmware upgrades are mainly used so you have to use OEM ink in the machine. Their are very little updates as to the running of the machine in the firmware updates so leave it at 1.19. SC

That firmware is nearly 5 years old and they stopped making 1604s about 4 years ago. SC

Well I managed to get hold of a maintenance manual. And it's all back together. Just difficult trying to work out how tight the belt should be. In the end I have just had to guess it!! SC

I reckon head cable or contamination where the head cable goes into the print head causing a malfunction or even the print head is dying. SC

Earlier this year our 1604 stopped printing it was just over 5 years old. It had blown the f2 fuse and after replacing, the image printed but flooded the whole print area with magenta. We had a tec fit a new head and a new OEM head cable fitted and this sorted it all out. Their was no guarantee...

Maybe you are unlucky and the communication port has died. It is still in warranty so give the supplier a call. SC

Rockhopper is a slow old printer. Also you wlll need a decent plotter to cut the graphics as the material is very thick. The price for MX materials is prohibitive high and makes making a profit very difficult. Only use Convex or Substance materials as nothing else works as well. We shut down...

Have you cleaned round the head and capping station as excessive build up of ink can cause this. Their may even be fluff round the head causing this. What is your test print like? How is the machine wired on the network as could be a communication issue also. SC

When I had my head replaced on our 1604 earlier on in the year the technician insisted I supplied original mutoh head cables. He reckoned that he had had issues with non original cables. So it could still be the head cable. Ours prints like new again. SC
