Wow! Very interesting responses from everyone. Are there any companies who still have a strong focus on wraps that would like to chime in? Have you seen a decline, and if so, how have you been adapting or expanding laterally to other areas?
Over the past few years we've seen a sharp decline in the number of requests we get for vehicle wraps, and an increase for vehicle decals. It seems like there's a lot less wraps on the road than there used to be around here, too. Is it just us? What's been your experience?
We don't have a...
For one, slanting a font will change the relative thickness of the horizontal vs. vertical strokes. That's one of the optical corrections that Fred mentioned needs to be done, even in a plain sans-serif font.
As a general rule, DON'T slant a font yourself if you can avoid it. Pick a font that...
This is pretty much exactly what we do. Setup cost + marked up material + cost per cut. These type of customers are great for offloading scraps. I had a lady come in recently who bought a carload of vinyl scraps that would have otherwise sat in a box for years or been thrown out eventually.
Epoca is not even close.
Barmeno has rounded tops on B and R. Doesn't match.
Granville is very close, but I see now that the terminal strokes of the S are longer.
Times Sans Serif looks like it might be a cheap ripoff of Granville, and it has the same problem with the S.
Peignot has an open R...
What about things like window graphics and sandwich boards? Most municipalities have restrictions on these, sometimes requiring permits, but in most areas it seems that no one follows the rules and there's no enforcement either.
This is what spreadsheets are for.
We use a spreadsheet where you input width/height/qty, then it calculates actual material with waste, adds up the labour for each step of the process, and then gives pricing on different vinyls, with and without laminate, cut individually or on sheets, etc.
We try to be as efficient as we can with our materials, but honestly with most materials it would be far more costly for us to waste time thinking of random things to print on the wasted space next to a job.
I've heard this as well. I don't think you're supposed to use laminate on 2611. We never laminate it. Compared to other vinyls, it's surprisingly difficult to scratch or damage the print (eco-sol ink).
I haven't tried this with wrap film, but if it's not too detailed and it comes off the wall cleanly, you might be able to score the vinyl, apply it to the wall and then weed off of the wall. Works great with frosting on windows, but as I said I've never tried it with wrap film.
