  1. Partial Wrap, your thoughts?

Their last project was wrapping a garbage can to look like a pill bottle. Guess what they threw out of the pill bottle in a parade?
  2. Partial Wrap, your thoughts?

We completed this wrap today for a customer. They gave us VERY little to work with; just said they wanted it eye catching. What do you think? Pictures are on our facebook: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.561164990561325.127982.115086121835883&type=1&l=a1519525e4
  3. I need a printer

We use the EdgeFX here probably more times a day than the Epson GS6000, it's all in how you market & who you market to, that translates into which printer better suits you. We do a lot of specialty materials (golds/reflectives/metallics) that the Edge does awesome on. Personally, if I was to...
  4. learning how to do body wraps

Most dirt car bodies are very similar, but the ones around here are all slightly different, so no template is going to be exact. Get out there and take photos and measurements and draw one up to scale. I use Illustrator for drawing templates to scale, and use Photoshop mostly for the graphics...
  5. Artwork?

The Vector Doctor (on here or Google him) specializes in this type of work.
  6. Cleaning Yellowed Plexiglass

It always costs more to remove old vinyl and clean the face than a new identical face costs, plus you KNOW what you're using and can warrant your product.
  7. What Would You Charge?

This year we charged ~$500 ea for 20 units with similar decals to your photo. That's a few more units at one time than you've got to do, and we're also in KY so the rate may be different based upon your location. We used all 3M materials and printed the decals with our EdgeFX.
  8. greetings from Indiana

Welcome from NKY, it's a great place here on signs101. Good luck with your business venture!
  9. New 3M Mystery Material?

We use that for curved surfaces and partial wrapping, but I can't see it conforming to diamond plate like the customer said. It is the closest material I know of though.
  10. Printer

Keep an eye open on Craigslist, and type in specific terms like "plotter" or "solvent printer" etc. Sometimes the guy down the road has gone out of business and needs to liquidate assets. I see a few from time to time come up around here.
  11. New 3M Mystery Material?

Background: Our graphics/sign company is also the graphics division of another fleet sales company. We sell in 3 states, and do warranty work on the vehicles as needed. Yesterday, our CFO went to a shop in Northern OH, to procure them for warranty repair work up there (5+ hour drive from our...
  12. Importing Question

I would go back to Illustrator and check the area of the file that is not importing. Possibly start with outlining the fonts, and then try "expand appearance" or embedding the linked file if it isn't already embedded. It could be a lot of different things...
  13. What Would You Charge?

Back to the OP's question; how many units are in the contract for this year? Will you be receiving the units at your install shop all at once? (or will they be sending these to you one at a time?) Send me a PM with what you quoted for these SUV Interceptors and I'll tell you what I'd charge.
  14. What watch do you wear on your wrist

I have a Skagen Titamium watch, it looks like the attached photo (but it is not a knock-off like the attached photo). I've had it around 4 years and replaced the battery and crystal once, I wear it everywhere (including swimming) and have never had an issue from it.
  15. Print, cut, weed then laminate?

It sounds like your customer is confused and just wants clear app tape in this instance. Around here a lot of the materials we use are specialty & "gold" materials, so we do the print/cut/wed/lam/cut process to protect the specialty material edges and prolong their lifespan. I've also do it...
  16. Illustrator - Unable to save the file?

I spent a couple hours yesterday working on a complex file, I saved it a couple times yesterday during the process, but when I went to save it again it started saving, then brought up a pop-up that said something like "Unable to save the file". I thought, no big deal, I'll hide the layer and hit...
  17. Source for Thick Acrylic Sheets (0.5 to 1")

Do a local area (Google maps) search for plastics companies. There are many in my local area, and sometimes the price varies WIDELY from one to the other depending on the specific material specs. Many even have "drops" or half sheets in stock that are cheap.
  18. Tech Fees

However the end fees end up, sit there and watch how the tech replaces the cable. Take notes if you can, and pick his brain if he'll answer questions. Then, next time one breaks you're only out the $46.85.
  19. Digital media curl

Wait 24 hours before cutting, same as if you were laminating it. The ink is still "wet" and the vinyl is soft. We had this happen recently on a rush order of decals, tried to print/cut in the same day with a black printed decal without lamination.
