This is exactly what we do also. No problems so far with mixing the Oracal Lam on top of the 3M product. We uses this combo for everything from laptop skins to interior displays.

How do the vectors look in Omega? I've never had anything come out that choppy, it must be something in the file somehow.

I'd say something is importing wrong, possibly there are spot colors (and transparency/gradients) in the illustrator file? That has caused choppy imported artwork in Omega for me a couple times.

Same results here, very occasional head strikes - usually operator loading errors. Also print on many other kinds of super smooth, etc banner media with same results, but 90%+ goes on Ultraflex jetflex 13oz.
