  2. Brass or Bronze letters in concrete?

we just did this recently with multiple sets of letters.... 1/2" plate with threaded studs & matching bottom 1/8" aluminum "baseplate" to hold the letter pattern. Assemble onsite, lay in the ground, cement it in. had a bit of an issue regarding our letters requiring a painted finish, which got...
  3. 90" Snowflakes

    stencil & spraychalk kits
  4. Exterior Backlit Signs

+1 to above, but i still say lexan all the time despite also using brands like makrolon. although it was my understanding that acrylic yellows much slower, if at all, than even the polycarbonate that is treated with UV resistance as it is completely inert in solid form. china crap stuff...
  5. Exterior Backlit Signs

gotta be the bulbs. you can see in the top panel that it wants to cast that same yellow-ish glow in the center leading me to believe that you have warm whites in the bottom cabinet, and a mixture of cool white and warm white in the top cabinet.
  6. How to handle solvent Waste Ink

+1 just gotta let the solvents dry-out/evaporate and its safe to simply throw-away. +1 definitely don't pour it out on the ground, until it is dry it is considered hazardous waste and you will face hefty fines....and the pigments that remain will find a hundred ways to haunt you. ...same goes...
  7. Tips for keeping crud off prints when laminating?

Climate control does most of the work, as higher humidity reduces static. Clean work clothes, and a tidy dust-free work environment does the rest... however, i buy packs of the white gloves from Blain's Farm&Fleet, as they're super cheap and always in stock, to wax-on-wax-off as I feed rolls...
  8. Question What Printer would you stake your business on?

still love my HP. Tempted to make the jump to their new hybrid line. if I were to jump ship on a brand, however, I would gladly fall-back to Mimaki.
  9. mixing a homebrew cleaning solution?

both. BUT you have to dial-in your ratio's for the intended uses. Less-acetone for flushing. More-acetone for light scrubbing of the capping station & sides of the printhead. I haven't had a solvent printer in over 6 years and haven't had to make my own cleaning solution in as long, but if...
  10. Mimaki print cut or print only

not a fan of the 2-in-1 setups.... I'd rather be printing on one machine while I cut on another. one never slowing-down the other from operation, and keeping your workflow moving-forward. besides, if you laminate your prints then you have to remove the print anyways, and if you don't trim-off...
  11. Question Reverse Printable Media for Edge

the listing on the website is just a 16mil piece of non-adhesive plastic. Thickness allows it to take a beating, hence their reference to football helmet decals. You would have to print a mirror image onto this and then laminate the double-sided adhesive onto it, and then cut it, and then...
  12. Need Help Applicator table

shopped em both, fell in love with the CWT. haven't looked back. both share the same engineer, so you're correct with the selection for top2 choices.
  13. clear-coating a UV printed transparency film?

hell yeah, i'll give it a go. same way I clearcoat my foil stamped photopolymer ADAs. too heavy and it starts to break down the ink. dry/light coat it a couple of times before a finish coat, comes out pristine. Thanks for the tips!
  14. Text size in Adobe illustrator

our old-school way about this, was to have a chart handy that showed what the conversion from "pt" to "in" for your standard dimensions, 1"/2"/3"/etc. so when you type in illustrator, and you know you needed 3" copy, you just looked at the chart and knew you needed "320pt" type. edited to add...
  15. Material for full window decals installed inside facing out?

harsh, bruh. noobs have feelings too. ....and +1 to stated above, at least the production part. however, simply backing the print with white vinyl WILL blockout most light transmission and ALL visibility. you can also: -substitute-in white perforated vinyl (like 3M 3635-210) applied over the...
  16. clear-coating a UV printed transparency film?

is an acrylic polyurethane spray clear-coat an acceptable way to finish UV print? mathews acrylic polyurethane, to be precise, or would solvents break-down the ink? I would attempt a sample, but I only have a latex printer. This finished print was provided by a 3rd party using a UV printer...
  17. Outdoor Backlit signs image burned out after a year

location being in Las Vegas would be the culprit, especially any exposure but facing north.
  18. Need Help Have a problem with adhesive residue on a window

could just be adhesive residue from past vinyl removal, that both remover and installer failed to notice. either way, installer should be leaving the jobsite with project lookin' pristine, and pictures to prove it, or client will decide they don't wanna pay (or at least on time).
  19. Need Help Stupid and Expensive mistake

to theyoutubes! ! edited:crap this wasn't the printer i guess, was way off. still, without a brand name to query, its a start
  20. Equipaint

i think a light-hearted jab would still warrant a warning.... not like he dropped some N-bomb that would justify insta-ban. however, i'd watch the "thin-skin'd dictator" references, as chinese censorbots might add this site to the ban list.
