  1. Is this REALLY how a sign cabinet should be built?!

I've seen wall signs built that flimsy but once they are fastened to the wall they are Ok. Still wouldn't accept that cabinet, multiple issues besides the build.
  2. I-Beams

Depends on access. Best to do as much exploring as possible, and always write a clause in contract about changes due to unknown conditions.
  3. Varnishing over SignGold & vinyl.

We also used to do bike tanks that were then cleared, worked fine. I did do one boat transom with sign gold that was over varnish and then got more coats over the whole thing. No issues that I know of.
  4. Gilding a wooden carved sign: golden leaf over polyurethane?

I don't remember the brand. Got it at the marine supply store, it may have been awl-grip.
  5. Gilding a wooden carved sign: golden leaf over polyurethane?

I've used the two part clear on mahogany it it held up for many years
  6. Burnout Signs

Use cut cast translucent vinyl whenever possible. When it has to be printed only the best cast vinyl & laminate. I wonder if reverse on clear substrate would hold up better?
  7. Discussion I can't figure it out.............................

I wouldn't think so. Unless the China Buffet can stay where it is, add the new sign above and remove the rest. And does patching mean just filling/blocking the holes? Because the wall is gonna look like crap without a full repaint.
  8. Software Help Gerber .PRM files

I save cut files to a "Plot" folder so all the prm files are in there and I could empty the whole folder if needed. But there are also jobs I cut without saving and for those I can do a search for .prm files and then delete them
  9. Gilding a wooden carved sign: golden leaf over polyurethane?

I agree. If it's going to have to have a natural wood stain finish I would clear the whole thing with a 2 part marine clear. Only thing I have used that holds up. Is the outline getting painted? (and don't clear over the finished sign, the only time gold leaf should be cleared is on a vehicle...
  10. Tape Mount Acrylic Lettering Part 2

We haven't experienced the kind of adhesion issues with mounting tape like you get with vinyl, but I would request that they don't use one of those "scrubbable" paints.
  11. We could all use a little John Candy about now...

Wow, letraset...that's a blast from the past. Thanks John
  12. Installing 4x4 realtor signpost

If you're talking about residential installs good luck. There's a company here that specializes in it, they burn through a lot of installers because the money sucks. They hire guys with a pick up and a strong back. You see lots of leaning posts. Everyone does Real Estate when they're starting...
  13. Weird Question about HP DesignJet

I posted one on craigslist and a guy took it. Was going to try to fix it for his sister to do some art stuff with it
  14. We could all use a little John Candy about now...

Pretty sure it was a hand lettered but anyone have a font that is close? Thanks Did you see the one where Papa Smurf took a crutch and smashed the sh*t out of a guy with a red hat? Did you see that one? You want to see that one?”
  15. Covid silver bullet? BS?

You mean the one with this doctor? https://www.thedailybeast.com/stella-immanuel-trumps-new-covid-doctor-believes-in-alien-dna-demon-sperm-and-hydroxychloroquine
  16. Mounting Sign on Awning

Yep, a real eyesore. You can remove the existing fabric and have an awning company make a new one.
  17. Aluminum Composite Question

If I wanted it to be really strong I would do two layers of 3mm bonded together with the seam flipped. Or use MDO and biscuits.
  18. Alternative to Rtape

Since I started this in March (seems a lifetime ago) I will follow up by saying we have tried Briteline and are satisfied with it. Also I am using this mostly for cast, calendared and reflective cut vinyl lettering and Edge printed/cut graphics, so the air egress issue doesn't come up for us.
  19. 3'x15'x1.5" HDU Sign Install Question

Shoes are just angle brackets. You can us aluminum angle cut to length or bend .080. Mount to wall with bolts and screw into edge. Cleats are good too.
