  2. HP 5500ps UV issues. Pic...

So the printer was giving some printhead path (2?) errors so I decided to clean around the belt and encoder strip. Now I am getting a double print where the bi-directional printhead paths are not lining up. Any ideas?

Hey guys and gals. Just wanted to let you know a little about myself. I've been a member here for years and never formally introduced myself. I have worked at 3 different Print/Sign shops over the last 7 years. Starting out as the main designer and printer operator after receiving a two year...

Just curious if I could convert my 5500ps UV to an ec-solvent inkset. Does anybody have any information on this? Thanks, -Keith

I'm used to setting up .pdf's in Illustrator for print In Versaworks, so I guess I am not familiar with the printers built in RIP. Do you have the link to that HP forum?

  8. Bought Printer, Need help!!

I have been using wide format digital printers for 6 years now. I recently had the opportunity to buy my own, from an auction because some other shop went out of business. The printer I have is a 42" HP DesignJet 5500ps UV. I have maintenanced the machine and restored all of the printheads to...
  9. How do I make a stencil?

I have done large parking lot handicap symbol stencils on our Roland printer, on cal laminated print media cal vinyl. Just set it up with large bridges, set your blade depth (this is the trick) and cut with 300g/force with 2 cut passes. For smaller stuff, play and test...
  10. Power of Words Video?

Wow, Glad I saw this. Reminds me of some words I recently heard. "The glass may only be half full of water, but it's half full of air and you're still breathing!"
  11. Digital printing issue

I use 3M cast trans white. Clean it with alcohol, and it will print perfect. Print first with a setting for High Performance Cast vinyl, with the return to origin box checked. After it prints and dries, print it again, same settings. Results depend on the images being printed, and you might need...
  12. Save your scrap

Playing around with some scrap misprint vinyl yesterday I told my plotter who the boss was (max force) and made it cut through the print media completely to make a great 40x48" handicap symbol parking lot paint stencil. Was a test for a customer and I turned a quick profit on top of recovering...
  13. Squeegees - what kind do you use?

For small graphics or anything not flat, I use the 3M gold and add some velcro. For everything flat, I make my own out of scrap 6mm sintra. I have a 6", 9", 12", and 15" that I just radius the top edge on the belt sander then round the corners to make it ergo. Apply some fuzzy velcro to the...

  16. So is this as good as it gets?

I'm not 100% about the "offset .25" thing? However you should be able to perfectly cut calendered vinyl with 70 grams of force. You probably have a blade with a busted tip being pushed down with way too much force at max speed and getting the speed wobbles, lol. -Keith Edit, second thought...
  17. Huge decal order. Outsource or In-house?

My best guess with out Roland SP540V at high speed would be about 10 days worth of printing 8 hours a day. Laminating and cutting and processing and everything I would want at least 30 day lead time for in house.
  18. Engraving Aluminum?

I'd be looking to get about $45 for that engraved in aluminum retail.
  19. Illustrator file gradient issues

Rasterizing gradients consisting of transparent levels of spot colors in illustrator always works for me. You might need to create a layer with white fill color below the gradient layer, and select both before rasterizing. Sometimes I encounter problems however, where the only fix is to create a...
  20. Duranodic PMS color?

My monitor isn't calibrated, but my eyes are usually worthy. Try RGB: R=87 G =76 B=52 which also works out to CMYK: C=51 M=57 Y=82 K=43. I normally work in the Adobe1998 color profile as it offers the widest color gamut for CMYK digital printing. -Keith
