  1. Anyone looking at their business differently now?

Over the course of a number of years, I kept bumping up the minimum order to accomplish this exactly. I am now happy with where I am at (I have 5 employees BTW). I was very careful in doing this, because it did offend a number of customers. The key is to do it slowly and intentionally. You...
  2. Some recent work

Very nice! Did you cut the lobster on a CNC or is it hand carved?
  3. Dual monitor question

Would it be faster to import a bunch of files at one time? Guess it depends on the type of files you are trying to copy from. I'm not Corel savvy. Adobe lets you import a bunch of files and just place them all around your open document.
  4. Remote Access

Home is 500MB symmetrical. Work has 150 DL, 30 UL. I'm just curious what others actual experience with VPN is.
  5. Sick of custom work

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "reigning in the options" - if you are referring to material options or design options. If material options, sometimes you just have to offer less options to the customer. Ask a few questions and quote was you think is best. Don't offer a cheapy option...
  6. Remote Access

For those that are using VPN, are you accessing files directly from the server? I have a VPN setup, with crazy fast internet at the office and home, but accessing files directly is quite slow. I use illustrator primarily. Anything with linked images takes forever to open and save, at least most...
  7. Looking for opinions

You go the extra mile Z, I like your style. I have found most architects and designers are pretty flexible, they just need to see something concrete like this.
  8. Looking for opinions

The halo lighting should show up fine. Lighter surfaces actually reflect the halo lighting better. As for the shadowing, you could make the depth less. Depends on height of the letters. Gemini goes down to 1in deep. You still get shadowing due to the standoffs. What you suggested isn't a bad...
  9. Serious employment question

Filing unemployment as the owner is very sketchy. Are you really not doing ANYTHING for the business - not answering phones, returning emails, opening mail, etc. Even coming on here and asking questions is doing something for your business.
  10. Question Average yearly revenue for sign shop

There are about a million factors....could be anywhere from $100k to millions. I would advise you talk to your accountant or a business mentor to walk you through this. As a side note - a main street retail location is going to be very high cost per sq ft. You may want to look at industrial...
  11. How is this metal sign made?

Looks like 0.25in solid aluminum spray painted gray with flatbed printed white lettering. Gemini should be able to do this .
  12. LDF spoil board

We get LDF from a local lumber yard. It takes a week or so for them to get it in. We found a big difference in suction with the LDF vs MDF.
  13. Rippling Prints when Framed

We print to Ultraflex PET for framed prints.
  14. Need Help 36 x 24 Lobby Stand Floor Pedestal Illuminated

You could get a frame made by Alpina (fastchangeframes.com), then make your own base. Vista may be able to make the whole thing as custom.
  15. 6mm ACM or 5mm AlumaCorr?

I would recommend 6mm ACM. I didn't know people were still using Alumacorr anymore. I recall the material often having a wavy looking face. It just always looked so cheap. As ACM became more popular, I saw it as the natural upgrade from Alumacorr.
  16. Reflective

    +1 for Nikkalite
  17. .020" Block out Polystyrene

I thought Drytac had something like this, but I don't see it on their site. Try a major plastics seller like Sabic or Laird.
  18. Frank Fellers, the Owner of Fellers Has started his own wrap shop doing wraps for $1,000

I understand the need to keep separate roles, but this arrangement is kind of awkward. I negotiated a deal on a large order with my sales rep recently. It would have been real handy to email back and say "go for it", but I had to call in and tell the person who answered the phone what the price...
  19. HDU primer

Sorry, Brad, I did not see your response earlier. The One Shot paint just never dried. It stayed tacky for well over a week. It was clearly some kind of reaction. We have stuck with latex primers lately. We really liked the finish of the polyester primer though. Yes, born and raised in Peoria...
