  1. Biesse Rover J E-Stop

I'm sorry- I'm just now seeing this. After endless calls, arguments, and them even charging us $2K plus for a service call on something that was an issue long before the warranty ran out, we finally got a competent tech to come out- who found there was a wire loose inside the Y gantry- that came...
  2. Applying graphics printed on clear reverse on glass question

My .02 It could very well have been the media. I have seen the "milky" look with the less expensive media. Printed the same images on 3M clear and it that problem disappeared. It might be worth it for you to request a sample roll of some "premium" media and compare it to what you use. (Now...
  3. ID please

Appears to be a variant of Bernhard Condensed
  4. New logo for myself.

Is that a script? I thought it was a signature. Personally, I'm not a fan of the arched text at the bottom, but I think you're on the right track.
  5. Looking for proof to PDF software

If you're using CorelDraw, you could just copy/paste the drawing onto your proof sheet and publish to PDF. We do our layouts onto our company's title block and produce PDFs all the time- saving the need for copy/paste.
  6. Thoughts on the SGIA show from those who went....

I, too, was surprised by some of the folks who weren't there- but I was (for the most part) happy with the folks who were there, too. The biggest problem we're faced with now is whittling down our "wish list".
  7. Carved HDU signs longer than 8'

Haven't any recently, but the preferred method at a previous shop (and we did a lot of them) was to use biscuit joints, and they always worked quite well. Worked for carved, routed, and sandblasted signs.
  8. Font ID Please x2

If it helps, the one at the top reminds me of the one used in the credits for "Men In Black", but danged if I can remember what the name of the font was.
  9. How would you attack this?

The only things I can think of is to somehow use the knifeless tape there, too.
  10. Opinion on 2 versions of logo.

I thought the one on the left was an ad for the new "Hunger Games" movie. If a galaxy/planet is what the icon is supposed to call to mind, I could only suggest making it look a tad more similar to those elements. This sketch has given you a great jumping off point.
  11. Wow... I feel like a stranger in a strange land...

My condolences to you for your loss.
  12. New monitor, Flexi Question...

I don't see where that's an option in Flexi (adjusting icon sizes). Maybe if you turn the Magnifier on in Windows Control Panel it would help. It's in the Accessibility features and enlarges what you hover your pointer over.
  13. Why we cant have nice things in our area.....

Too bad for them. Maybe the booster club will get tired of the existing, ugly one and contact. Until then, it's probably best to just say "whatever".
  14. Why we cant have nice things in our area.....

Just to play devil's advocate, it could be that the identification they went with is "standard". In many school districts in my area, Helvetica (or some other sans serif font) letters on a plain monument structure are what the board is willing to pay for. If the school looks for a nicer sign...
  15. Is an old JV3 still a useable machine in a modern sign shop

If it works, you have the room for it, and the jobs to run on it, I think it'd be foolish not to use it.
  16. Laughable Mistake

That would've been my fear. Years ago, I was working at a small shop where I had far more experience than the owner and he attempted to make a banner one Friday afternoon when I'd left for the day and was three and a half hours away on the interstate. Our counter sales guy called me- in a panic-...
  17. Large printed install patterns

For the big ones, I use 75# Kraft paper and tape them together. Sturdier than butcher paper, much less weight than an equal sized banner would be. I prep the file in sections, pen plot them, and tape them together. Knock wood, I've yet to have one fail- including the 4' x 76' sets and 16' x 66'...
  18. Gotta love "design firms"

My .02: If you're a designer and you design signage for a customer, then you absolutely need to know how those signs are made and provide your files to the contractor/sign shop accordingly. Ditto designs for that are supposedly specifically for screen printing; wide format printing; engraving...
  19. Application / Transfer tape trouble removing

RapidTac also works well for this.
