low use If it were my printer I would go back to sealed cartridges. The open refill type carts are going to give you more trouble than savings on a low use printer.

Mimaki The CJV is a much newer product running a single DX5 print head. The older SC540 has six old style DX 4 print heads. The Mimaki will be faster, have an auto take up, easier to maintain (on board cleaning cartridge) The Roland is going to be much more expensive to repair than a newer Mimaki.

Few things could be a leaky dampers, bad o rings, dirt on the bottom of the head. My guess is the capping station is bad. You only need a slight bit of ware on the rubber gasket and it will not seal to the head.

New inks Doubt Roland has that much to do with it. Their new printers are using the Epson DX 6 heads (same as Epson GS6000) and Epson has had a nickle free ink for that printer for years. Epson regulates what inks go through Epson heads.

Bordeaux inks Two possible issues, the overspray could be a head alignment issue. The ink starvation could be cap top or a problem with ink supply, are you using a bulk system.
