  1. Subscription Based Software

I've never had to re-enter my password, except when I moved to a new computer At first, I was annoyed with the subscription model but I'm seeing more sense in it now. Unless you want to keep the same program for 10-20 years, the subscription is cheaper from an upgrade standpoint. I still like...
  2. need help with these fonts

It's even better when they contact their designer and he sends a jpg resaved as an eps. ;)
  3. Font ignorance, Sign recreation

Looks good. Keeps the old-school hand painted look instead of a crisp modern serif font. I agree with HDvinyl, the pipe is distracting, but I don't know how much control you had over that.
  4. Any ideas where I can get this?

I've used 1mm polystyrene before, which would probably work for this. Most substrate suppliers should carry it. Only problem I see is I've only seen 4x8 sheets and you need over a 4ft circle. But if you talk to your suppliers, they may be able to special order a piece like this.
  5. Suggestions Vehicle wrapping

If you're just looking to make some extra money, then night eagle has a good idea. If you just take a percentage or referral fee for sending a wrap shop business, you're taking care of your customers and keeping focused on what you do best. If you want to get into the wrap market, outsourcing...
  6. Question Printing on Paper?

Have you tried Roland ESM-SGPA (Solvent paper w/ adhesive)?
  7. Which is better: Many Small Runs or Long Run of Larger Decals?

On our Roland Versacamm I can only get cutting accuracy for about 6-8 feet long, depending on how many cutlines there are. This is within the specs of the machine (deviation of ±0.3% of distance traveled, or ±0.3 mm, whichever is greater). Plus there's a ±0.5mm deviation on the print/cut...
  8. Question Cheyenne Cargo Trailer Wrap?

How would you go about taking care of the chalky coating? I've had to turn a few customers away in the past because we couldn't stick vinyl to the old powdery paint and they didn't want to pay for a new paint job.
  9. Photocell sensor not working

Just thought I'd give an update on this. After being unsuccessful in trying to bypass the photocell, I finally bought a new one. After the install was complete, the machine worked fine. No further problems.
  10. Question Dumbest Thing in Your Shop

Boss had hired a customer's kid as a favor to him, and as we needed an extra pair of hands. This kid knew everything and was unteachable - and I've been training people in every job I've ever held, so I'm used to working with newbies. Anyway, after several months, the kid was still messing up...
  11. Photocell sensor not working

It's a safety measure to keep your hands or other objects out of the rollers. If something breaks the beam, the machine stops. Right now, there's nothing breaking the beam, but it is still indicating that there's a problem. We have an electrical hardware engineer in another department who took a...
  12. Photocell sensor not working

I have a Drytac Jet Mounter JM63 Pro. I think it's been at the company for about a year and a half, maybe two. So I leave for a long weekend and come back to the "Photocell" light blinking red, showing a blockage error. I try troubleshooting all the way down to removing the laminate and print...
  13. Table Cover Supplier

I used Radius Display Products when I was up in the Dallas area. They can do anything from screen print to full-color printing. Radius Display Products
  14. Texas sun vs. vinyl panel sign

It was white marine grade plywood. Complete coverage with the black vinyl - I'm thinking they used cast because it came up much easier than signs I know were made with calendered. Then they had a green layer on top of the black, and the white text on top of that. The black was in surprisingly...
  15. Texas sun vs. vinyl panel sign

Here are some pics of a sign I recently reworked. Another company did the original sign maybe 5-7 years ago, according to the customer. These 4x8 panels were put up back to back with one facing north and the other facing south in central Texas. Original sign was made of layered vinyl - black...
  16. Completely New to Signs

I had a walk-in from a new sales rep for one of my vendors. She's new to the industry, came from sales in a different one. But she was personable, she admitted the current limits of her knowledge, and she was emphasizing the "let me see how I can help you" tack. Seemed like she was confident in...
  17. Océ 1200 vs hp fb550

One thing I love about S101: when I'm researching equipment, there's bound to be discussions here as well. We're also beginning to look at a flatbed - something I know next to nothing about right now. So the gathered wisdom and experience is great. I've got a meeting with Vanguard tomorrow, and...
  18. Stick to flat wrap?

I'm not so sure this method will work. Wouldn't it be better to drink it?
  19. I need some help. Pleeeease?

Getty? Last time I looked at them, their fees were outrageous! They got some nice pics, but not worth it.
  20. If you don't employ an electrician, how do you install signs requiring electricity?

Now that you mention it, I believe similar rules exist in Texas. If there is already a connection in place within X feet, the installer can plug in the sign. But that's about all they can do without licensing. Thanks for the reminder.
