  1. Spreading magenta ink

A picture will help a lot. Does it look like the head is misfiring nozzles at the wrong time or actual drops of ink splattering on the media?
  2. JV33 160BS Firmware

So the JV33BS just means it uses the BS series ink which is unavailable in the US but available in Europe and Australia as far as I can tell. The Standard Firmware doesn't have the BS series ink as an option so the main issue will be you can't use the BS ink. You would have to switch to SS21.
  3. VJ1638 - Fix or Replace?

You should expect to get the same amount of time out of the new heads as you did from the current heads. As long as the machines are in good shape otherwise, you could get another 5 years out of them. The 1638's are great machines and hold up very well. On the other hand, the machines are at...
  4. JV33 Pump problems...drawings?

Try filling a syringe with solution and pushing it through the pump tubes. If you get a ton of resistance, there is a clog. If it pushes right through without any issues and the cap top if good for sure, the pump could be bad for sure.
  5. Are you guys finding it harder and harder to actually talk to a customer?

While I can relate to your frustration I am the opposite. A phone call stops me from doing what I am doing and takes up way more time than someone just sending me an email. I can respond to 3 emails in the time it takes for a phone call to end and I can be more precise about how I word things...
  6. Aggressive vinyl for cold surfaces

DPF8000 from Arlon will work. I did a job for some guys in Alaska for some outside electrical boxes. We used DPF8000 and 3420 lam and they stuck good.
  7. Roland RF-640 banding left side of machine

Does it happen in any other color other than Cyan?
  8. Roland RF-640 banding left side of machine

+1 on starvation. What he means is not enough ink is flowing to the head fast enough to keep printing solid. I would start by changing at least the cyan dampers. That should fix the issue. I have seen this exact issue happen on a Mutoh and it ended up being a partially clogged manifold. Anything...
  9. Need Help Tips for Creating Sign with Multiple Photos?

I would keep the original images as they are and not lower the resolution. Then use the, "Place" function in illustrator to import the images. This links to the file rather then embedding it in the file which makes the file size much smaller. This also helps because if you edit the original...
  10. Best place to hire experienced sign people?

I got a job at a start up sign shop when I was straight out of high school with no experience other than a 2 year graphic design program. They started me out at $8/hr. Once I was there for 3 months and they realized I was worth the money they upped me to $12/hr which at the time was living the...
  11. First time to print onto 20oz Banner - need heat settings help!

Normally on regular vinyl I am between 33 and 40 on the pre and print heat settings. So for a thicker banner you should be able to up the heat compared to regular vinyl.
  12. First time to print onto 20oz Banner - need heat settings help!

You want to set the heat settings as high as they will go without the material buckling. It takes a little trial and error. Make sure the head is in high head height as well. The settings you have set right now would be considered low for the most part but everyone's environment and materials...
  13. Question SP540v How do you turn on High Speed?

It's all in the profile you use. Checkout the profile settings and there should be a setting for motor speed or it may be called scan speed. Usually they give you normal and fast speed but you may have more depending on the machine.
  14. Question 300ppi for a 10' x 8' backdrop???

Yes. So say your job calls for a 10' x 10' banner at 100dpi but for whatever reason your computer or software can't handle that size. One way to handle it would be to design your file at 5' x 5' and up the DPI to 200. So when you bring the file into the RIP and up the size to 100% it will be 10'...
  15. Print head speed on a SP-540V

In general print head speeds are determined by the heads ability to fire accurately. The manufacturers know what the limit is on these heads and designs the printers, specifically the firmware, to control the motors to print at the ideal speeds for the particular head. So basically your printer...
  16. Need Help Epson S50 printing but not printing

I'm stumped. It has to have something to do with how the file is being interpreted by the RIP but I have no clue why or what would cause that.
  17. Need Help Epson S50 printing but not printing

Try it without the effect just to see what happened. If it starts printing then you know it's the effect. I have seen it happen before and am not sure why it happens but usually you have to rasterize to get it to work with the effect.
  18. Need Help Epson S50 printing but not printing

    Which effect are you using?
  19. lines on print ( help need with media comp or other ... ) CJV30

Oracal should be fine but you do get bad rolls once in a while. Unfortunately, specifically on the CJV30, towards the end of the manufacturing the Y-bars were coming out of China bent slightly which is enough to affect the print. If your media comp looks good on one end but not good on the...
