It's cheaper than a pack of cigarettes (for one month) or a case of beer. It helps Fred. Look at all the info we've gleaned from 101 over the years in comparison, which is priceless. Love....Jill PS I've noticed that some of the members who initially replied to this old thread no longer...
  2. Do you really need a phone # on your sign?

I don't have one on mine. I try to talk people out of them (and the LLC ugh) I can see the need for the # on some things but on a sign directly on the building itself? No. Maybe on the door, with the hours. Love....Jill
  3. Old fashioned in KY..

Welcome from Butler, PA. I have been a sign painter for nearly 30 years. The Letterhead movement changed my life. You may want to attend a live meet and hang out with some other sign painters. Mike Meyer is having one in Mazeppa MN in March. He is who got me started with Letterheads. I...
  4. Somebody please set me straight!

I was "hand job only" until 1998 when I got a plotter to make pounce patterns and offer cut vynull lettering. Until that time, I only used latex gloss house paint for my backgrounds. But vynull does not adhere well to a latex background. That's when I switched to using oil-based. Lots of...
  5. Somebody please set me straight!

Glad to see that there is someone out there wanting to hand letter signs. I try to use Alumalite these days as a substrate. It comes in some nice colors and all you have to do for the edges is glue on the U-channel plastic trim. When I do use MDO, I buy it pre-painted via my sign supplier...
  6. Pittsburgh World of Wheels 2014

Hope to see some of yins down there this weekend. Despite the snow and frigid temps...
  7. not doing it for nothing

I haven't done a set of truck doors for less than $200 since about 2000. Regardless of if they provide the art. It's still your time to deal with them, order in the vinyl (sometimes a color that you can never use again) cut it weed it mask it, apply it. Cost of machinery, electricity transfer...
  8. Hey Fellers and Montroy.

Never heard of Montroy and probably have only ordered from Fellers about 3 times since they changed from Ameriban. But what a great reason to never order from them again. Besides their ridiculous catalog. Love....Jill
  9. Old VS New - Need Critiques!!!

If a logo could have a mullet, that old one does. New one is better but still kind of icky. Different fonts, no italic, if you must have the V put it on top and don't chop off the tips. Still looks a bit weak with the light colors and gradients. Love....Jill
  10. New Logo for fairly new sign company

I just did truck lettering for a guy, who was referred to me by a client I've had for 20 years. He had camera-ready, very mediocre, artwork (I was shocked) He got his new logo "from a contest online" I am assuming crowdsource or whatever. I asked how much it cost him, thinking it would be like...
  11. font help please...

I knew that Motter Femina popped into my head for a reason! Not the right one, though haha
  12. font help please...

It is a font- I can't remember the name but I feel like it's from Letraset. Some sort of 1960s looking thing. Love....Jill
  13. Looks like im still here

 That's what I meant by the "selling small novelty signs" part. I have all the stock ready to go.
  14. Show me your business logo

Clean always wins, with logos. In my opinion.
  15. New Logo for fairly new sign company

I'm happy (and lucky) to get what I charge locally for a logo. Most people think it's included for free with the sign.
  16. Show me your business logo

    I still don't have a logo. It's only been 29 years. This is what's on my truck. It's hand-painted. Love....Jill
  17. Looks like im still here

I know what you mean. I wish I didn't care so much about signs and layouts. That way it would be easy to just give up. But dammit, I have been at this for 29 years now. It literally is killing me inside to not have any work, and to see utter sh!t work that the hacks are doing here. I am...
  18. Ideas on how to mount vehicle graphics

I'd project that and paint it. No p!ssing around and very easy/economical. I'd do the ugly door lettering in vinyl. Love....Jill
  19. Very annoyed.

Unfortunately, most potential clients don't let you get a word in edgewise, unless it has the word "dollars" in it. Most potential clients don't know what they hell they are looking for. "Do you sell those letters that stick on-" "Do you sell those plastic signs for out in the yard?" "Do you...
  20. New Logo for fairly new sign company

Here was my idea, but then again I am a big Irving Klaw fan.
