  2. question for Illy users

I design the way the designer here does, it's easier to size my strokes visually instead of going back and forth with offset path then convert my strokes to outlines/pathfinder. When I was a production monkey, I had to deal with this all the time. Most of my employers would have me send...
  3. Using commission-only sales

Generally, if a salesman is going in an a commission only deal, he would want to keep his old clients. If the OP is only doing a few hundred thousand a year and paying 15%, it's a lot of hard work to make 300k happen out of thin air without some contacts in the industry. And thats only 45k a...
  4. Using commission-only sales

I have worked at shops, and worked with sales people as a designer and starting some sales for a company I freelance for. Every commission only salesman was at the very least supplied a cell phone (or the expenses were covered) and gas/travel Is your salesman going to manage the job? or...
  5. How long to design and setup to print?

You can't compare yourself to small 2 man operations... you are a design/marketing firm. Most sign shops specializing in wraps (like 80-90%) are not all that great at design (or they are showing poop on their websites) and most throw the design in to sell the wrap. You are not a sign shop, can...
  6. Sometimes the irony is TOO much....

This kind of design will be in a design book 20 years from now and be called retro, whimsical and cute...
  7. How long to design and setup to print?

This is a trick question: If the client supplied a nice logo, the copy and some idea of what they want and clearly communicated that, it can be done in a few hours... If there is illustration and graphics that have to be made up, it can take days. It can't be answered without looking at the...

  9. Logo Critique

"ELECTRIC MOTOR & SALES AND SERVICE" should be taken off the actual "logo". I recommend designing just the logo, then doing a few layouts with the added "ELECTRIC MOTOR & SALES AND SERVICE" The best reason is when on a business card, it would be impossible to read, and on say, a...

  11. A little rebranding.... Thoughts

After so many years of suggesting design ideas... I throw in the towel... NO MAS! (I had permission to post this)
  12. Is this a standard ADA signage design.

There is no "standard" ADA sign shape unless it came from some company that made "stock" ADA signs, either off the shelf, or added the type on an of the shelf blank sign. This shape in 1/2" is unfamiliar to me, there was an 1/8" sign that had that look, but this was some 15-20 years ago.
  13. Is this a standard ADA signage design.

It is my understanding that pictograms are not required for restroom signs, if they are used, they are required to be in a 6" field. The sign can be up to 4" thick before being non-compliant. 1/2" thick is not all that uncommon on a custom sign, but I can't recall a stock - off the shelf sign...
  14. 322 5" x 7" signs needed

I would not trust a digital print sign if exposed to the sun in Temecula... I would expect 3 years max out of it. I would use vinyl, second surface on non-glare acrylic, and backspray the field color.
  15. Don't post much these days. Some recent work...

You're not gonna get "nice" work showing the work on your slideshow, the kind of work you show, is the kind of work you're gonna get.... start adding some concept work to raise the design level of your site and show your capabilities. I have harsh opinions about your response but I was told...
  16. Is this a standard ADA signage design.

Does not look familiar, but what is it made out of? Acrylic? photopolymer? what kind if braille, raster or molded in? If it's acrylic, then should be easy to replicate. A few things, the sign you are showing is not ADA compliant, you can only use san serif typefaces, and even though the...

I know when you joined, you were 20, so you have done this for at least 6 years.. but how long have you been doing this altogether? You said in your introduction you were designing websites... in my opinion, this site could look better, a lot better with better type selection and organized...
  19. Rough Sandstone Face + Gemini Lettering

What was taught to me was: -- Get a piece of wood or pvc the same depth or a little thicker as the stud will be that inserts into the letter. I sometimes add an angle on the top and/or bottom to stiffen up the board so lettering is on the same plane -- Drill the pattern into the PVC/WOOD...
