When you replaced the dampers, did you clean the old ink off the manifold posts? Did you replace the caps with Roland OEM caps? Also suggest you perform "Initialize the limit" procedure and then do a power clean. See the attached file...

While you have the take-up motor open, look to see if it has some kind of clutch disc, probably leather. If this is the case, they may need to be replaced. After awhile, these start to lose their friction, causing slippage and requiring more force to work.

This is common on Rolands using DX4 heads. The black usually goes first, even with OEM ink. You can a head soak, but not likely to change anything. As suggested above, save yourself frustration and iffy looking jobs and replace the head.

What is the head height set to? As suggested, you should also run all the head alignments in service mode, and then the user bi-directional calibration, in that order.

After changing the dampers and head, you should do one power clean and then one choke clean. This is the correct process after changing those two components. Did you do that?
